Bamako, Mali. From 1950 to the present day, Malick Sidibé has been a tireless neighbourhood photographer. The whole city passed through his studio, and all the surprise parties of the 1960s were immortalised under his flashbulbs. In the early 1990s, the treasure trove of his three hundred thousand negatives was discovered. In the blink of an eye, Malick found himself at the forefront of the international art scene, from New York to Tokyo, via Sweden (where he won the Hasselblad photography prize in 2003) and Venice (where he was awarded the Golden Lion in 2007).

The aim of this documentary is both to reveal this fascinating work and to offer a behind-the-scenes look at this human adventure.
