Sur le tournage de Vitalina Varela (Portugal, 2019), le cinéaste Pedro Costa et les membres de son équipe ont collecté des images de différents moments de la production. Les photographies ont été prises dans la banlieue de Lisbonne et sur l'île de Santiago, au Cap-Vert, entre 2017 et 2019. Vitalina Varela - Caderno de Rodagem est un enregistrement visuel des méthodes de travail de Pedro Costa. Un effort collectif.

Vitalina Varela a passé toute sa vie à travailler la terre dans les montagnes de l'île de Santiago, au Cap-Vert. Benjamine d'une famille de huit enfants, elle a épousé son premier amour, Joaquim, un garçon du même village, de Figueira das Naus.

While shooting Vitalina Varela (Portugal, 2019), filmmaker Pedro Costa and the members of his crew collected images of different moments of the production. The photographs were taken in the suburbs of Lisbon and in the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, between 2017 and 2019. Vitalina Varela – Caderno de Rodagem is a visual record of Pedro Costa´s working methods. A collective effort.

Vitalina Varela had spent all her life working the land in the mountains of the Island of Santiago, Cape Verde. She was the youngest of eight brothers and sisters and she married her first love, Joaquim, a boy from the same village, of Figueira das Naus.
